Hi,
I'm running fetchmail 6.2.5+SSL+NLS. It works great when connected to
the Internet via broadband. It also worked fine last year with
dial-up from a few ISPs including MCI/uunet. But for the last several
months when connected via MCI/uunet only one or two messages are read
(*very* slowly) and then fetchmail quits. This happens with even very
short messages as shown below. The PPP connection is usually 24-33k,
and while not fast, loads web pages at the speed expected for dial-up.
Any advice on how to troubleshoot this?
There's very little to go on there, but the SOCKET error is one that
comes up fairly regularly - a trawl of the list archives will give you
details on the problems others have seen.
Nearly always the error indicates a problem between you and the remote
host. The only things you can do is:
1) Get fetchmail to log via syslog so you can actually see the delays involved
2) Check your connectivity to the mail server (ping will give you a
*very* rough idea)
3) Try another dialup ISP to confirm that it is MCI that is the problem.
