We are discussing the latter, not the former.
Any validator is free to add whatever cleverness they wish. However the
degree of cleverness or its usefulness does not give it status within
the IETF specification.
Who is this procrustean "we"? People asked, I responded, and made
clear what I think is and is not appropriate for standardization.
If there's anything off-topic and inappropriate here, I'll trust
