It's good for dealing with badly forged junk, or junk sent from an
account which has been disabled. The downside is that there are a lot of
incompetent people sending email using invalid addresses or badly
configured scripts on web servers, etc. etc. plus the enormous number of
sites that block all MAIL FROM:<>.
Your idea of an ESMTP service extension for CBV could be worth doing.
