In very simple terms: A protocol is a set of rules for interaction. In
this case the interaction is between computers. This can involve both
hardware and software and protocols define the interactions as well as
the "formats" (bits on the wire etc).

Hi,
Can someone please explain me the term "Protocol". Does it also mean it has
some software code underlying beneath it. Please help me understand.
