Yep, this is an unoffical group in every sense.
If you guys want to meet unofficially (I'm saying "you guys" as I'm not
going to be there; one IETF-related trip to California per summer is
enough for me) here are some tips:
- in order to obtain a meeting room properly, an AD has to approve
- during the lunch and dinner breaks the meeting rooms are mostly empty
so a small gathering isn't likely to be kicked out, however, relatively
few people show up as people tend to have other places to be and/or be
hungry
- on sunday, this is much less an issue and the rooms are mostly empty
too, early afternoon or even morning is a good time for an unnofficial
meeting
- alternatively you can overlap with the regular meeting schedule as
there are often times that nothing much of interest is going on, but
then it's much harder to find a place
- make sure the directions are very clear and timely (not everyone
reads their email every 5 minutes) and even them people will have
trouble finding the place or group or show up late
- ietf-style agenda makes little sense but people want to know what a
meeting is going to be about so they can decide whether it's worth
their time
Good luck.
