Is there a way to completely supress message fields altogether, other
than EXCS?

Nope. The simple way to exclude all fields is the following:

<excs>
.*
</excs>

This is what I hvae done. Works like a charm.

I have all fields supressed, but am left with the two
surraounding hard returns, making the message a bit cluttered. Can I

Indeed I do. It's tough to slip hout of WP mode and into HTML mode
sometimes....

get rid of the HRs another way?

What version of mhonarc are you using?

# ./mhonarc -v
  MHonArc v2.0.0 alpha 2
  Copyright (C) 1995,1996  Earl Hood,

  MHonArc comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY and MHonArc may be copied

in
  the MHonArc distribution.

Mhonarc should only
output a single rule if no header fields are printed (introduced
v1.1.0). Later versions allow you to control the HR printing
via resources. Hence, you may need to modify a message resource
to eliminate the unwanted HR(s).

I'll assume that Hhonarc is only printing one rule, and the second rule
is coming at the top of the message. Which resource should be changed
to eliminate it? Also, I am not doing a Thread index, if it makes any
difference. The work is at http://sea-css.ssd.k12.wa.us/news/news.html
if you want to take a closer look.

Thanks!
