Re: Another beginner Question - HTML formatted emails

I just read my own mail as it was sent back to me. This damn html formatted mail! For anyone with a mail client that tries to display HTML formatted messages I suspect that my question will be quite confusing.

Basically,

Some of our users are using HTML formatted mail when sending to our mailing list. This is getting into the mhonarc-generated archive as either basically an empty message body or in some cases it was being added but wih all the HTML tags visible (that is being treated as a lump of text with lots of HTML tags scattered through it.

I am not sure how to control the reading of HTML formatted messages into our archive.

Thanks again sorry for any confusion/difficulty/wasted electrons,
Ian Wilson

G'Day all,

Sorry for the long post but I do not want to trim too much...

I am trying to archive a mailing list - theer are about 500 users - all will be Windows based since the mailing list is about a win-32 based program. There are a wide variety of mail clients but Eudora, Netscape and the various MS clients are the most common.

Some people insist on sending formatted mail (not plain text). I have requested otherwise but some like fancy formatted emails.

When I run mhonarc over my Eudora mailbox (.MBX file) I get a number of results from HTML formatted messages.

1) if the body of a message looks like (******* are delimiters in this email only):
*****************************************
Hi,

As the PCB file is opened, from the menu, select file>>save as(or save copy as), and then select PCB 3.0 Binary file, The PCB 3.0 format was used by Advanced PCB V3, Protel 98, Protel 99 and Protel99 SP1. I guess the P99 which you said is P99SE.

How can I save the PCB file maked in P99 as a file for P98?
***************************************** Then it comes through into the mhonarc generated HTML page with all the HTML tags visible. 2) If, however, the message looks like: ********************************************* Steve,

On a very dense board, it is sometimes easier to see the available real estate by suppressing the visual background noise. If you have just the multilayer vias and pads turned on, along with the single layer upon which you are working, the manual routing possibilities on that layer become much clearer.

The mode is available in Protel 98 from the tools/preferences/options menu, and in Protel 99SE by using 'shift S'.

I hate to sound too stupid, but I've evidently missed something along the
way, despite having done quite a few complex multilayer boards. What is this
"single layer mode", and what does it do for you in manual routing? I can
stay on one layer just fine during manual routing with all the layers
enabled, so obviously I've misunderstood something in what you're describing.
When you get a few minutes, could you please educate me?

the resulting messagexxxx.html file displays as just the last few lines as
shown here:

</x-html>

3) There are also some messages that have "<x-flowed>" at the beginning of
the message and then "</x-flowed>" at the end of the message. Doesn't seem
to cause any damage but .......

Is there a method to get HTML formatted messages to be interpreted
correctly? I assume there is some sort of resource seting that will help me.

What I really want is a black-box that I can run every month and produce
another months archive. I do not want to learn the guts of mhonarc if
possible. I would love a resource file that did a reasonable job on
producing a thread index with a little fancier navigation than the basic
default format and a subject index - ideally both showing the dates of
messages if possible. Has anyone got such a resource file that would be
willing to share on a no-responsibility basis. (It would ideally cope with
mails from Windows-based clients complete with HTML formatted messages. I
have another issue with people using the reply-to button to create new
thread which stuffs up mhonarcs threading somewhat but I gather this is
difficult to solve - incorrect in-reply-to field is difficult to cope with....)

I am sorry if it looks like I am not getting involved in the guts of this
powerful program but I am spread rather thinly as it is and I simply do not
have the time to invest in mhonarc.

Thanks very much,

Ian Wilson
