as for writing it in C? i haven't seen an ics attachment lately, but
is posix shell, plus utilities, really not up to the task?
My feeling is "yes". Here's the spec:

You have to deal with things like RFC 822-style unfolding, time zone
conversion, and funky date formats. COULD you do it in awk? Maybe,
but I personally am not a fan of any awk program longer than 5 lines.
