It's hard to argue with the potential for security breaches and various S/W
incompatibilities caused by old libraries too. Some updated services won't
link against old kernel libraries, and those services need to be upgraded
in order to address known vulnerabilities.
As an aside we are also working on patching the libc-5 to fix the named
vuln recently reported.
I strongly suspect you're confusing "named" with "resolver".
