[fetchmail]Problems getting multidrop to work.

2002-01-04 17:58:54
Hi,

This is probably not what fetchmail was designed for, but I'm hoping I can
get it to work anyway. Apologies in advance for the wordy message, I felt
that more detail was better the less detail. :-)

My ISP will forward any mail to x(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca (for
any x) to my
personal account (wrichard(_at_)direct(_dot_)ca). The messages arrive in my
wrichard(_at_)direct(_dot_)ca mailbox, but the "To:" line is unchanged (it
remains
x(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca).

I've created several accounts on my machine to handle mail that goes to
these "phantom" accounts, and I want fetchmail to forward them correctly.
My fetchmailrc file is:
<.fetchmailrc>
set no bouncemail
set invisible

poll mail.direct.ca
        protocol pop3
        no dns
        no envelope
        user wrichard with password "*****" to
        announce(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca = announce
        "wrichard" = "wade"
</.fetchmailrc>

I had hoped that fetchmail would take any messages addressed to
"announce(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca", and send them to the local
"announce"
account.  This isn't happening.

When I send mail to the "announce(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca"
account and run
fetchmail to retrieve it, this is the fetchmail -v -v output:
<output>

As you can see, fetchmail didn't think any of the addresses matched,
and it defaulted to sending the message to the account running fetchmail

X-fetchmail-warning: recipient address

Subject: test
From: Wade Richards <wrichard(_at_)direct(_dot_)ca>

To: announce(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca

test
</received message>

Note: I got roughly the same results without the "no envelope" line in my
fetchmailrc.

So, finally my questions:
1) I listed "announce(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca" in my
fetchmailrc, so how
come fetchmail didn't match it? Why the "X-fetchmail-warning: recipient
address announce(_at_)stpaulsanglican(_dot_)bc(_dot_)ca didn't match any local
name" line

2) How can I convince fetchmail to do what I want?

Thanks,

    --- Wade
