[fetchmail]"SMTP error: 501 Bad address syntax"

2004-04-16 09:44:06
Hello,

I am a happy fetchmail user for 2+ years. However, there is this occasional error (/var/log/mail/errors):
-----
Apr 16 10:24:35 aslan fetchmail[22029]: SMTP error: 501 Bad address syntax
Apr 16 10:24:36 aslan fetchmail[22029]: client/server protocol error while fetching from 65.108.181.103
-----

The error is caused by a bad From: line generated by a Microsoft e-mail worm:
----
From mikepope(_at_)www(_dot_)contoso[1](_dot_)txt Tue Apr 13 14:45:44 2004
[snip]
From: mikepope(_at_)www(_dot_)contoso[1](_dot_)txt
-----

The reason this is a problem is that all the mail gets held up for the account with the problematic message. Logging in to the remote server and editing the problematic email box with vim fixes the problem. However, I am hoping for an automated solution.

Our local server runs is where the mail is being sent to. This is where fetchmail is running.
* Trustix Server Linux  2.0 (Linux 2.4.25)
* fetchmail 6.2.3+NLS (installed from rpm)
* postfix 2.0.13

The remote system (where the mail is being pulled from) is running Redhat with this pop3:
"+OK springsrescuemission.org POP3 Server (Version 1.020h) ready."

Is there something I can do?
Thank you.
