This quote from the December 94 issue of Scientific American in an
article on
electronic journals:
"The proposed standards, called Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions,
or
more simply MIMEs, specify a uniform format for sending chemical data
over a network. Examples of these transmittals might be the spatial
coordinates for display of a molecule or the mathematical variables
fro its spectral analysis. A chemical-modeling software package can
then use a MIME to display, manipulate and even annotate a molecule."
So we have a new noun. Let's see when it shows up on the last page of
the Atlantic Monthly...
