Today is the 20th anniversary of the publication of RFC 822 (821 just
says "August"). I thought the list might be interested in this trivia.
Personally, I think the more historic data was publication on 21 Nov 77 of
RFC733.
1. It was the first accepted codification for email and most of its
constructs are still part of Internet mail. So it is reasonable to say
that standardized Internet mail is about to have its 25th birthday.
2. It was the first RFC to have a formal status of standard. There was
quite a bit of work behind getting permission to add that word to the
title, and quite a bit of community reaction to its appearance.
3. 822 is really only a refinement of 733.
