I wanted to propose a new mail system called Gimail
and ask for comments from list members.
Gimail would work by each ISP having a new mail
machine (gimail.isp.net say) which would contact
the Gimail machine for destination ISPs.
Gimail would be sent through the Gimail machine
of the ISP and thus it would be simple to determine
the offending ISP for unwanted mail.
Someone would maintain a whitelist of well-behaved
Gimail machines. ISPs in the scheme would simply
reject mail from other machines.
Initially, Gimail will be run in parallel to the
current email system.
Gradually, however, Gimail would become the mail
system of choice as it would be naturally a lot
more spam-free.
If any ISP in the scheme went bad, its Gimail
machine would simply be removed from the whitelist.
