Oh, no. That's wrong. You want to continue using DNS 'for
what it was
built' which is mapping between names and addresses. You just
don't want
to use it for this particular, new name/address mapping.
Actually Paul Mockapetris stated in a recent interview that the DNS was
intended to be more than a mapping from DNS names to IP addresses. Jon
had thought it could do more from the start.
The thing that makes DNS work is the fact that the query type supported
is very weak, exact match only, wildcards are really a default mechanism
rather than a true wildcard match you would get in X.500.
