the domain name even be in a different domain from the EHLO's domain,

That's a nit, all right...
I'd be willing to add "If there are any"; but I don't want to go into
a full description of the algorithm.
(IMHO, "isn't among them" can't be satisfied by the empty set, so I
don't feel there's any actual inaccuracy with the current text.)
