Hi.
Over the last year or so, I have made several surveys of large numbers
of domains in order to determine the deployment of SPF, Sender ID and
Caller ID DNS records. The sizes of the surveys have varied from a
minimum of 1.3 million domains found in a spammer's list of email
addresses. (Complements of a spammer who left a website open.) The
largest survey included all .com, .net and .org domains.
I am preparing to make another survey and since I'll have to fetch
most of the NS information anyway, doing an extra couple of queries to
look for DK, IIM, META-signature, and other email authentication
systems would be fairly easy to do.
The question I have for you folks is: would this information be
useful?
For example, I can get DK results for the Yahoo.com with a lookup such
as:
(wayne(_at_)footbone) $ dig +short _domainkey.yahoo.com txt
"t=y\; o=~\; n=http://antispam.yahoo.com/domainkeys"
However, I'm not sure if this kind of lookup on all .com domains would
accurately capture the deployment of published DK records.
If such a survey would be useful, what kind of data should try to
collect?
