Could anyone tell me the relationship between OPES, iCAP (transcoding
technologies) and multimodal technologies?
The iCAP specification has been submittd by the main editors (i.e.
individuals) to the IESG for consideration as informal RFC - it is
*not* the output of the OPES WG.
However, the IESG has asked the OPES WG to discuss the iCAP proposal
with respect to the OPES architecture and the OPES requirements - just
as the OPES charter states: "The working group will consider the ICAP
protocol drafts as an OPES precursor and will will support development
of an analysis that explains the limitations of ICAP, to accompany
informational publication of that protocol".
The OPES WG currently has an Internet Draft on "Requirements for OPES
Callout Protocols", which will be used as a basis for this discussion.
Just recently, Martin has published an Internet draft starting a
discussion of iCAP with respect to these requirements - see
draft-stecher-opes-icap-eval-00.txt.
Further discussion will take place on the OPES mailing list - please
join in and post your thoughts and comments.
