+1  2821 and 2821bis are very strict about this,
as quoted by you in 4.4.  Also confirmed in 3.7.2
for gateways, which could be summarized to "even
if you think that foreign trace info is broken
or pointless leave it alone, it might still help".

it might be prudent to be say:
  MUST NOT change --> MUST NOT change or delete

Yes, a problem for the Authentication-Results I-D,
which proposes to delete older header fields at
the "border" (IIRC).  Yet another case of "border",
where hoping that mail-arch explains what it is
likely won't fly - any "border" defined by "MX"
is orthogonal to Dave's POV, a matrix of ADMDs.
