The suffix is changed from "-xml" to "|xml". As of now,
no media types ending with "-xml" are registered yet.
I looked but did not see any reason given for this change. Is "|" superior
to "-" in some way? If so, it should be documented. If not, why change it?
Yes, it should be documented. We will fix this.
At the ietf-822 mailing list, Keith Moore [1] pointed out that "-" is
already used too heavily by existing media types. Chris Newman [2]
suggested ~!$^+{}| We picked |
As of today, no registered media types [3] use "-xml" yet.
