I'm presuming you mean the lbnamed written by Roland Schemers at Stanford ca.
1995, and available here..
http://www.stanford.edu/~riepel/lbnamed/
Does anyone have experience in implementing or supporting lbnamed?
certainly Stanford folk do -- it's been in constant use one way or t'nother
since written. www.stanford.edu is load-balanced using it, for example. More
info about it's operational characteristics can perhaps be had from Stanford
folk in this dept..

Try the managers of either Infrastructure Delivery or Leland Systems (use
either http://www.stanford.edu/services/stanford.who or "whois -h
whois.stanford.edu <name>" to obtain email addresses).
Anyone know of any large organizations using it for multiple data
center load-balancing?
Dunno, you might try asking namedroppers(_at_)ops(_dot_)ietf(_dot_)org
