Terminal Room:
--------------
The Terminal Room is located in the "Palais des congrès" level 3 - Hall
Bordeaux and is not open 24 hours due to facility requirements. The hours of
operation are:
Sunday hours:
2:00pm - 10:00pm
Help desk: Technical support 4:00pm - 8:00pm
Monday-Thursday hours:
8:00am - 10:00pm
Help desk: Technical support 8:00am - 8:00pm
Friday hours:
8:00am - 12:00 noon
Help desk: Technical support 8:00am - 12:00noon
The room itself consists of approximately 150 seats providing wired 10/100
Ethernet access and 220v European power ports. There are also two printers
available. They are located at the Help Desk of the far left row of tables as
you enter the Terminal Room (near the elevators).
When using the Ethernet connections in the Terminal Room, IPv4 addressing is
provided via DHCP. Please use Dynamic Autoconfiguration for IPv6. Unlike the
wireless networks, IP multicast is enabled for this network.
Network Basics:
---------------
The IETF 63 network connects to the Internet via two separate STM1 (155
Megabits) links (one is used as backup) provided by France Telecom. The entire
event is addressed out of the 86.255.0.0/19 block for IPv4 and
2001:0688:FFFF::/48 for IPv6. IPv4 multicast and IPv6 are natively provided by
France Telecom Opentransit.
Wireless:
---------
An 802.11 wireless network is being provided by France Telecom liberally in the
Palais des Congrès (Level 3), Meridien and Concorde hotel (lobbies). Due to
hardware availability, 802.11 b/g is available everywhere, and 802.11a is only
in the Palais des Congrès. The areas being specifically covered are the meeting
rooms and hallways in the conference area (level 3), Grand Amphitheatre
(plenary), and the lobbies and bar area of the Meridien and Concorde hotels.
There are three wireless networks available:
1. An open network with a beaconed SSID of "ietf63",
2. A wep enabled network with a beaconed SSID of "ietf63-wep" and a wep key of
"wepisinsecure" (Hex: 7765706973696e736563757265), and
3. An 802.1x enabled network with a beaconed SSID of "ietf63-1x", associations
of WPA or TKIP, authentication of PEAP/MSCHAPv2, a username of "user63", and a
password of "ietf63". Do or do not verify server certificate (provided by
France Telecom).
The proper operation of the wireless network requires the assistance of all
users. One of the most significant issues with wireless performance in past
IETF meetings has been wireless clients automatically, or accidentally
initiating "ad-hoc" networks that act as the official IETF wireless network,
causing other users to associate with false IETF wireless networks. Therefore,
please disable your client's ability to create an ad-hoc network and as well as
the ability to automatically join an ad-hoc network. If you are using Windows
XP or Mac OS X 10.3 to manage your wireless client, the instructions to disable
creation of ad-hoc networks are listed below. If you are using other systems,
please do what ever your particular wireless client management system requires
to turn off ad-hoc networks.
For Mac OS X :
Open System Preferences > Network > Airport and un-check the box for "Allow
this computer to create networks".
For Windows XP
Select Wireless Connection > Properties
Select Wireless networks > Advanced
click on "Access point (infrastructure) networks only" and unselect
"automatically connect to non-preferred networks".
Additional instructions to use the 802.1x SSID with Windows XP :
select wireless connection > Properties
Select Wireless networks > properties of "ietf63-1x"
Use the following parameters :
Association : WPA and TKIP
Authentication : Enable IEEE 802.1x and PEAP as EAP type. Unselect the
two options "Authenticate as computer..." and Authenticate as guest...". Click
on properties.
Select (or not) : Validate server certificate.
Select Authentication Method : Secured password (EAP-MSCHAPv2).
Then click on configure and unselect "Automatically use my Windows logon name
and password"
Printing:
---------
Printing services are available in the Terminal Room during all hours of
operation. There are two printers, both HP LaserJet 2420n. These print on
standard A4 paper and, unfortunately, are not duplex. The printers served by
three print queues via CUPS, PrinterA, PrinterB, and a combined queue named
Terminal_Room_Printers. Please use the combined queue whenever possible. The
queues can be accessed via LPD, IPP and Windows Print Services (Samba).

Also, the CUPS server has a presence on every IETF network, and thus IPP
browsing should work

Similarly to CUPS, the Samba Server is on all IETF networks, and should be
browseable via workgroup "IETF63" and server "Pollux".
For MacOS X (10.4 "Tiger"):
- Open "Print & Fax" within System Preferences
- Select "A4" as "Default Paper Size in Page Setup"
- Click on the "+" under the printer list to add a new printer
- When the Printer Browser window pops up, click on "Default Browser" in
the upper left hand corner
- Select the "IETF63 Terminal Room Printers" line and click "Add"
For Windows XP:
- Open printer settings
- Choose 'Add a printer' , then 'Next'
- Change setting from 'Local' to 'Network' printer and choose 'Next'
- Change the option from 'browse' to 'Connect to this printer'
- In the 'Name' field type :
\\smb.ietf63.ietf.org\Terminal_Room_Printers and then choose 'Next'
- Next an Add Printer Wizard dialogue box will appear, you need to select
two things:
1) In the left window (Manufacturer) select 'HP'.
2) In the right hand window (Printers), scroll down and select 'HP
LaserJet 2420 Series PS', then hit 'Ok'
(Note: If you don't have the exact driver, any modern HP
Postscript driver should work)
Other services
--------------
In addition to printing, several other services are provided on the
network:
DNS & DHCPv4:
All of the IETF networks provide dynamic IPv4 addressing via DHCP
using two redundant onsite servers. Similarly, we have two onsite name servers
supporting the ietf63.ietf.org domain and providing recursive name resolution.
There is also one backup offsite DNS server. These servers are:
ns0.ietf63.ietf.org: 86.255.2.2 or 2001:688:ffff:2::2 (DNS & DHCP -
Onsite)
ns1.ietf63.ietf.org: 193.251.151.59 (DNS - Offsite)
ns2.ietf63.ietf.org: 86.255.2.3 or 2001:688:ffff:2::3 (DNS & DHCP -
Onsite)
IPv6 and DHCPv6:
All IETF networks are IPv6 enabled. Please utilize Dynamic
Autoconfiguration to build your global addresses. Nameserver address for IPv6
are being provided via DHCPv6.
NTP:
A Stratum 2 NTP Time server is available at ntp.ietf63.ietf.org.
SMTP:
An outbound email (SMTP) relay server is available at
smtp.ietf63.ietf.org. This will openly relay mail from within the IETF networks.
RFCs:
A complete set of RFCs is available via anonymous FTP at
ftp.ietf63.ietf.org and via Windows Filesharing (SMB) at
\\smb.ietf63.ietf.org\RFCs
IETF Webserver:
A complete copy of the main IETF webserver is located onsite. If you
resolve www.ietf.org using the local nameservers, it will point you at the
local copy.
Network Problems

General help is available at the help desk as noted above. If you have any
network issues, please do not hesitate to contact us. You may do this by
sending email to the noc team at ietf-63(_at_)ietf(_dot_)org or stopping by
the help desk. Remember, it is difficult to address issues that we do not know
about.
