nntp-ng tried to merge NNTP and SMTP headers. The problem was
that some same name headers had different meanings between those

It doesn't have to be if we observe that for a user, mailinglists and
newsgroups are pretty much the same thing. There have been many
comments to the effect that we have to include some special handling
for mailinglists.
I think it would be interesting to see where we get by applying the
multicast routing model to mailinglist distribution. So a client would
send a "listener report" to the local server, and the local server
would open up a path through the network to the source in order to
receive list messages. A list server would then automatically try to
deliver new messages to all mail servers that have indicated they're
interested in the past 48 hours or so.
