Am I reading the mharc installation pages correctly... I need to

Yes. However, it is technically possible to have a program
update lists.def if there is some automated system for adding lists.
I believe there may be one usage case that does this.
Also, should I archive more than one list, is there an option I'm not
seeing that builds an index page listing each?
The "all-lists" page is auto-created. There are variables in
config.sh that control things like what the filename is, etc.
BTW, if all you need to do is archive one list, then that is fine.
If you plan on archiving multiple lists, the decision to make is if
there should be a separate archive per list or combine lists into a
single archive. In my private archives, I have created archives that
archive multiple lists. For example, I have a security archive that
archives messages from numerous computer security mailing lists.
Makes it easier to browse and search across the numerous security
lists.
What you do depends how your archives will be used.
