Creating automatically subdirectories by months and years?

Hello,

I try currently to archive some mailing list (I try to archive internet :-) ),
I saw the page:
http://oss.sgi.com/archives/linux-xfs/

They have subdirectories for each month and year, and it's possible to download 
the mbox file.

Is there an option in mhonarc to do this automatically, or must I code my own 
perl code for this?
