In message <199605041628(_dot_)JAA02348(_at_)newt(_dot_)com>, Bill Wohler
accidentally replies
to the whole MH-workers mailing list, and posts on the newsgroup too I guess,
complaining about the previous spam message concerning a jjjsmith web page at
pobox.com. Thereby, just aggravating the situation instead of helping.
On the other hand, I, instead of annoying everyone by accidentally replying to
all the RECIPIENTS, wrote to postmaster(_at_)pobox(_dot_)com to complain about
it, and
actually got a reply, that they have terminated jjjsmith's account with them
as a result.
I also wrote to the postmaster at ncsa.uic.edu since the message apparently
actually originated there (according to the Message-ID and oldest Received
header, and they replied that they are looking into determining who sent it,
and when.
I hope you will follow my example next time. Don't blindly reply to the
recipients in mail, or followup to the newsgroup. DO examine the headers,
carefully, in particular look at the Message-Id: and the oldest Received:
header, and complain to the postmaster of the service provider.
The only possible relevance to the mh list or newsgroup, is if you are going
to propose some modifications to some MH tool, to help in this procedure of
examining the headers to determine the source of a spam junk message, and
automatically generate a complaint to the proper authoritative address....
Sincerely,
Chris Koenigsberg
