On the other hand, if you don't then we're more likely to
run on other oddball platforms that don't like tail -n
or whatever.

The motivator isn't Solaris here, it's me.  I test with posh
and Heirloom shell so that we're as portable as reasonably
possible.  It's not a big deal and I don't mind doing it.
