Interest piqued, I had a Google but didn't find a specific thing called
that. I thought it may have been discussed here before but apparently

Nope. Nothing like that. It was a Rand Project sponsored by, what was then
ARPA. It explored the idea of map displays that a user could interact with,
Some of the happiest hours of my life were working on that project, hacking
away, in C, in in a tiny room with a small PDP 1145, and an Evans and
Sutherland display. To this day, the interactions we had, were better than
anything that Google has.
