Is there an upper limit to the length of the display name of an Email address?
Section 3.4 of RFC 5322 does not seem to indicate any. If there is not a legal
limit, is there a practical limit? That is, will some clients get unhappy with
Email addresses that are too long?
I agree with your reading of RFC 5322 that there is no standards-based
limit to a display name.
As for a practial limit ... good question! I would guess that anything
over a kilobyte would be asking for trouble. I don't think there's any
easy way to predict what the practical limit would be, though.
