Is anyone doing any work on gateways between PEM and secure X.400/X.500
mail?
Not to my knowledge. Chris Moore gave a talk at Interop a few weeks
ago, and he pointed out that there is very little real work on
security in X.400 mail systems yet.
I'd like to correct this before everyone digests this misconception. There
are already several X.400 1988 secure messaging implementations available
that I am aware of, one from a vendor and one from third party, plus potential
for a second third party code implementation when they buy back the vendor
extensions to their code. In addition, the OIW has added already the OID for
PEM body parts for 1988 X.400. This is possible because well over a year
ago OIW and EWOS worked together to develop the implementors agreements
required to do this work. The implementors agreements are available online
at NIST.
