Btw. I have an email based CRL server running
(crl-service(_at_)big-screw(_dot_)mit(_dot_)edu).
It accepts CRL-RETRIEVAL-REQUEST types mesages and responds with CRL messages.
Similarly it accepts CRL messages (which contain valid signed data) and
returns a non-PEM acknowledgement.
