Dear Steve,

Your "lust" for EDI over Internet will be satisfied very soon.

In answer to the letter you posted on pem-dev you may be happy to learn
that we've been working on your problem for several years. The solution
is leaving beta-test this month, and will be available in January 93.

It provides a comprehensive solution to your problem by combining EDI,
Digital Signatures, Electronic mail, EDA (Electronic Document
Authorization), and workflow into a single integrated framework.

It conforms, as appropriate, to IS 9796, PKCS, X.500, and a host of other
international and industry standards. It operates well across Internet,
as well as any other mail vehicles, such as e.g., Compuserve, X.400, etc.
It is compatible with PEM, but does not require PEM.

In the initial release, Workflow.2000 is available only on MS/DOS, OS/2,
IBM MVS, VM, VSE, and AS/400. Other platforms such as UNIX,Mac, etc
will be forthcoming.

Mr. Fischer is presenting a white paper on this in February at the
Internet PSRG. We will also be demonstrating it at the RSA Technology
and Product Conference in Redwood City on Jan 14th and 15th.

In the meantime we would be delighted to supply more information if you
contact us at any of the below addresses.

Sincerely,
- Sven James

Steve,

While I can appreciate that other users of the Internet have loftier uses
for PEM, I, for one, would like to lobby strongly for such a prosaic
use of PEM as EDI. EDI is the single application of PEM that I lust
after the most. I rank it up there with Telnet and FTP. As a civilian
researcher, I spend an annoying amount of time with purchase orders.
An integrated system, with EDI, would be delightful. I hoping to buy
it from someone like WordPerfect or Lotus in a few years!
