Re: X.400 body part for PEM

1993-07-20 13:44:00
Thanks. It's not in the Index in their chapter which is why I did not see
it. When you told me it was there I leafed through and found it under D.6.
So now this leads to one more question! In the OIW Text in chapter 8,
section D.6, under the Body Part for '88 it states: "For interworking
with 1984 (P2) systems, a USA body part (integer) will be allocated by
NIST as described in figure 10." Does anyone know if NIST has assigned
such a body part for '84 interworking? Still, it's the '88 I was mostly
interested in but the '84 might be of interest to others and to an
'88 system that wants to downgrade to '84 to interwork with '84.
Since all that X.400 does is transport the already created PEM message,
it makes sense that the normative references for the message are still the
RFCs.

Eva,

This was done and stable in March 1992. The MHSIG of the OIW created:

      id-privacy-enhanced-mail OBJECT IDENTIFIER ::=
              { id-mhsig-body-part-types pem(0) }

      where id-mhsig-body-part-types expands to:

      { iso(1) identified-organization(3) oiw(14) mhsig(6)
              body-part-types(1) }

The informative Annex references RFCs 1113, 1114, and 1115, though.

Jim
