Bob,
I though your naming examples message continues to be a good
exploration of the territory surrounding some of the more obscure
recesses of DNs for complex corporate entities.
Certainly one problem that will arise is that of name
conflicts where two companies in different businesses were able to
co-exist with the same name in the same geopolitical context, because
there was no likelihood of confusion between their product or service
lines. A fundamental requirement of X.500, irrespective of
certificate use, is that these companies have different DNs. I think
this will cause some heartache as people struggle to resolve name
conflicts that didn't cause problems previously, but we'll just have
to deal with these problems as they arise.
One point with which I wholeheartedly agree is that neither
seeAlso nor alias are suitable as distinguished attributes.
