In a PEM context why do you need to know the sorting order?
In a directory context, you could have the Directory UA allow
one to specify the order, so then local tastes can be catered for.
I more or less agree. The only PEM implication that I can think
of is if you have a "Bob's Dream" UA and it asks you to select a
certificate from a list. Hopefully such a list would be sorted into
some sort of order, so you can slide your window cursor down
to the approximate position in the list, rather than scrolling
through everything. This would presumably apply to any
PEM function that displays certificate names in a list,
whether to list the local cache, the CRL list, etc.
I agree that in a Directory UA the local language preference
should be catered for. Ultimately the DUAs may have to be
bilungual or even trilingual, even for operation in the US.
I would think that in Europe the need would be much more
apparent, but you would be much more qualified to comment
on that scene than I am.
I understand that the X.500 folks have a work item on their plate
to address the issues of internationalization, but I am
ignorant of their status or intended schedule. Presumably these
issues will be addressed there? (I'm holding my breath.)
