Bob, It's not that simple. Yes, it's desirable to have a protocol that does not *require* the network and which does not *require* the mail headers. And yes, the headers outside of the envelope cannot be trusted. However, it does turn out to be highly useful to be able to include the headers inside the envelope. the existing PEM specs are strangely lacking in this regard. (Our forthcoming MIME-PEM spec makes this easier to accommodate.) Steve
