Name changes

Steve,

I have to disagree with you on your recent suggestion to change the meaning of
the acronym PEM. The term Privacy has both a generic and a specific meaning
in common usage. For example, there is a conference that takes place in Oakland
every Spring known as the IEEE Symposium on Research in Security and Privacy.
It is generally understood that the use of "Privacy" in that title is generic,
i.e., it refers to the protection of information considered to be private. There
is no implication about a particular mechanism or service; authentication
and integrity certainly come under its auspices.

Isn't there better things for us to do than debate the reconstitution of
of names. After all, what does UNIX(tm) stand for? And if anyone knows, who
really cares?

Regards,

Dan
