On page 9 and 10, it is explained that no canonical form conversion is
necessary for encryption and MIME/PEM encryption makes use of local
form as it is.
Nobody has come forward on this; since I made particular note on
this while reading the draft, I wonder if we read the same one?
On page 9 of my version (November 1994), it says:
"prior to the application of the digital signature service, the body
part must be in a canonical form. Transforming the body part to
be signed into a canonical form is a necessary and essential part
in the digital signature process.......Second, the body part must
have its line delimiters converted to a unique and unambiguos
representation prior to computing the digital signature and prior
to each verification of the digital signature"
Moreover, the top of page 10 requires the use of a 7-bit CTE,
so that BINARY is not allowed at all.
I fail to see the problem....
