We are runnning procmail (v3.11pre3 1995/05/17) as our local delivery agent
with smail3 as our MTA with BSDI 1.1 as our OS. We are having problems
delivering large messages. A portion of our smail error log is included
below and seems to indicate that procmail is running out of memory:
- ------------------ Message 0szUrb-000j25C ------------------
The per-message log file contains:
procmail: Out of memory

buffer 1: " Sun Oct 1 10:20:41 1995
"
Xfail: <baron> parent: <root> reason: (ERR_144) transport local: child returned
status EX_OSERR (71)
procmail: Out of memory

This particular message was several MB in size.
I posed this question to the list back in June when we were still running
procmail v3.10 and received a response from Stephen R. van den Berg which
said:
BSDI 1.1, in that case I recommend upgrading to procmail v3.11pre3.
Procmail v3.10 has one known serious problem, and you are running into it.
Unfortunately, upgrading to procmail v3.11pre11 hasn't solved this particular
problem for us.
Michael Tiernan suggested that we may be running into the OS's ULIMIT or
other similar limitation, but I'm not quite sure how to verify and/or
rectify this.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
