I just tried switching a list from SmartList to Majordomo, and came running
right back to SmartList. While SmartList seems to let you queue up more
than one message at a time, majordomo creates one message with a mondo
header, and the system waits on each address. Since I'm only operating
with a 28.8 dedicated link, waiting for messages to go out like this is
painful and takes forever.
So I'm back to SmartList, but there is one thing that SmartList is missing
which causes problems for many less-sophisticated users: a centralized
list manager (ie., majordomo(_at_)foo(_dot_)com) which takes subscribe and
unsubscribe
requests and passes them on the particular list named (ie., subscribe
mylist). It seems to me the actual function would be fairly simple.
Has anyone written any add-ons or modifications of SmartList or Procmail to
accomplish something like this? I'm using procmail-3.11pre3 and
SmartList-3.11pre3.
