procmail and The Dotfile Generator

1997-03-11 09:59:40
Dear procmail users.

As I announced for about half a year ago, I've created a procmail module
for The Dotfile Generator

I would very much like if some of you would be so kind to check it out

What is The Dotfile Generator?
==============================
The Dotfile Generator is a graphical configuration tool, where you
configure dot-files for different programs. The configurations are done
with check buttons, pull-down menus, entries and some special designed
widgets. Help is available for each configuration options in the module
(just click the right mouse button on an options you wish to know more
about.)
Configuration module exists (at the moment) for bash, elm, emacs, fvwm,
procmail, rtin and tcsh.
More information (including screen dumps) is available from it's home page:
http://www.imada.ou.dk/~blackie/dotfile/

How much can the procmail module configure?
===========================================
First of all I have to say, that the module CAN NOT configure everything,
which is possible to configure with procmail! But thats not the intension
either. Here's a list of configurations, which can be done with it.

- Sort mails into folders, which contain either the date or the content of
  a header field. (eg. backup-<Year>-<Month>, or Received/<Month>/<email>)
- forward mail
- auto reply, with a message, which includes the date or the content of
  a header field. Reply only, if its more than a certain amount of days ago
  since last reply.
- remove some header fields.
- add/edit header fields (eg add a header field called LINES, with the
  current number of lines in the letter.)
- remove signatures from letters, based on the sender of the letter.

The code generated will take care of creating directories, when deliverment
are to files.

What can you do?
================
I really need lots of people who know something about procmail, to verify,
that the code generated is ok (ie. no missing logs etc.)

I also would like suggestions on more actions, which could be configured
with the tool.

I would very much like to hear about ideas on how to test conditions (from
within the module)

Finally, I would love to hear your comments, suggestions and criticism

Where to get it, and where to send mail.
=======================================
The module is available from
http://www.imada.ou.dk/~blackie/dotfile/procmail/
where you also may find an article, which describe its use.

Specific comments should be sent directly to me:
blackie(_at_)imada(_dot_)ou(_dot_)dk, and
general comments on The Dotfile Generator should be sent to its mailing
list: dotfile(_at_)imada(_dot_)ou(_dot_)dk
(To subscribe send mail to dotfile-request(_at_)imada(_dot_)ou(_dot_)dk, with
subject subscribe)

Kind Regards Jesper.
