Looks more like there might be something funny with your Make. Can you
get and install GNU make and try with that? 

FWIW, I don't recall having any special problems compinig on a similar
machine. What does your Make look like? Ours is in /usr/bin/make which
is actually a symlink to this:

-rwxr-xr-x   1 bin      bin        122880 Nov 16  1996 /usr/ccs/bin/make

Warning: really perverted make detected

This looks a bit dangerous :-)

Using the following directories for the LOCKINGTESTs:
 100

You should see the LOCKINGTEST directories listed here. Are they
defined, have you edited them in any way?
