What am I doing wrong here?

Hi

I was trying to recompile procmail when I had this problem. I changed
basename (in the Makefile) to my home-dir and changed the Defpath in
config.h (because formail and procmail are _always_ in my homedir. I
tried to run Makefile (as I did yesterday) and suddenly this doesn't
work anymore:
(from Makefile)
BASENAME= $HOME/procmail/procmail-3.11pre7/
# For display in the man pages
VISIBLE_BASENAME= $(BASENAME)
<cut>

skutsje/vhe/TEXEL/hi96/sikke600/procmail/procmail-3.11pre7> Makefile
BASENAME=: Command not found.
Variable syntax.                            

I'm not (yet) experienced at this kind of work.
