making list digests ?

Hi,

        Is it possible to make digests out of a mailing list I am on, and
if so, how?  Also, would I need to have crontab access to do this?  I
don't have crontab access on this system, but maybe I can on some other.
Also while I'm at it, anyone here who offers free decent shells, with
procmail on them?  Anyhow, thanx in advance for any/all help.
