Spam Stops Here!
Finally! A new release of junkfilter is ready. I hope it was worth the
wait. junkfilter is a procmail-based junk email filtration package.
It is now 4/3 years old and catches more spam in each incarnation.
o Licensing.
junkfilter is now licensed under the GNU General Public License.
o Package details.
Included with this release is the hacked-together and generally crufty
junkfilter administration tool, "jf". I use it to build new releases,
add domains to the domains list, and construct the lists of ip addresses,
domains, addresses, dialups, headers, and body text that junkfilter
parses when it is executed. Those of you maintaining your own personal
lists of these types (via the user-lists mechanism) will find this tool
extremely valuable, as you can enter plaintext and use "jf" to construct
the compressed format, assuming you have access to perl and a few other
standard tools.
o Program improvements.
The most significant improvement is that junkfilter now displays
_ALL_ reasons, rather than just one, that a piece of email was matched.
The only exceptions to this are the "list" features: bodychk, domains,
etc. Since they are run through once instead of multiple times, only
one reason from each list can be matched.
o Mailing List
As you are aware, the mailing list was shut down for a while due to the
lack of a host. John Perry has remedied that situation by volunteering
to host the junkfilter list on his server, jpunix.com. The new address
for submissions to the list is jf-users(_at_)jpunix(_dot_)com(_dot_) The
