Hi-

I just switched my server

  from an ss5 running Solaris 2.5, sendmail.com's 8.9.3
and procmail 3.11 defined as the local mailer in sendmail.cf.

  to a u5 running Solaris 7, Sun's sendmail 8.9.1
and procmail 3.14 *not* defined as the local mailer.

In /var/adm/messages, I now get:

Jan 23 18:59:08 geosci procmail[12094]: Suspicious rcfile
"/home/dave/.procmailrc"

Hmm, perhaps you should read the procmail(1) manpage. Search for
"Suspicious rcfile" and see what you get.

and I've seen many various alternatives listed on web pages.
What's the answer?

The correct format for your .forward file depends on the configuration of
sendmail. If it's set to use smrsh, then you need a symlink to procmail
in smrsh's bin directory and should just put
        "|procmail"

in your .forward file. If not, then
        "|exec /usr/local/bin/procmail"

is correct for newer sendmails.
