a dot in a mailbox

Is the following valid?

:0:
^ TOuser(_at_)domain(_dot_)dom
mail.box

or do I have to escape the dot in mail\.box?
Sorry if this is obvious, but I found nothing about
it and I have the feeling that I´m missing mails.
