Could you explain why you don't provide a VERBATIM example of the From: header on the message it is failing to match?

A single space does not match:
        * multiple spaces
        * no spaces
        * tabs
        * other characters such as <brackets>

The VERBOSE=ON logging can be elightening if you actually examine your regexp to the text it fails to match.
