Er... hello everyone.
I'm sorry about the problems I've created on this list (and
several others).
My presumed autoresponder was a test to validate email addresses
to see if it would even work.
The theory goes like this:
Somebody sends me email and it looks really spammy.
First thing I do is check the email address to see if it is even
valid. If not, I toss it.
If it is, I send a request for confirmation to their email address
because not all of the mail servers out there will respond
correctly to the first test. If they reply then I can assume that
they are a real person and not some spam-bot.
The Pong's where the result of hosed expression checking.
The other SMTP attempts where I dropped early where the address
validation. This process is never intended to send email.
I had to test it against everything I recieved to see if the
theory was even valid in the real world. For the most part, it
is. But seeing as I only get ~10 spams a day it would take months
to see if it would even work a little bit.
I'm trying to do this stuff right and even RTFM, but sometimes
things don't work out as planned....
