I think the original poster does not regard such images as attachments as
they can be seen in his mail reading software and so they appear to be no
different from the text of the message.
The original poster should look at his original message in a text editor.
Apart from seeing that it consisted of 100% attachments and was not a text
email at all, he will also see that 90% of the message consisted of
coprolitic filler.
